Cape Cod Purse Kits

The Cape Cod Purse© line was created by Nathan Taylor because he noted that while the Island of Nantucket had a legendary basket heritage, the mainland of the Cape had no baskets to call it’s own. Many Cape Cod basket makers were making Nantucket style purse baskets. Nate felt they should have a Cape Cod Purse© Basket Line of their own. The Cape Cod Purse© Basket, he hopes is a tradition in the making. In keeping with the Cape Cod theme each basket is named for a town or landmark of the Cape.

Purse and Basket Liners

All the baskets are made from ash staves and weavers with ash or cherry rims, handles and cherry lids. While these baskets are beautiful just as they are feel free to check out our line of basket accessories that will put your personal touch on the basket of your choice. All baskets can be purchased with an optional fabric. Whether you choose to weave a basket yourself or have Nate weave one for you, these baskets and purses are sure to be the talk of the dinner party, picnic at Scusset beach or just shopping Hyannis.

Finished Baskets

Nathan is happy to weave any of these baskets especially for you. You will find the “Finished Basket” Price following the description of each basket. You can also add a plaque, scrimshaw piece or name plate to your basket which will add to its beauty. Although these baskets are the quality of a museum piece, they are durable enough to use every day. Nathan signs each basket to document it as an original.

Basket Kits

Starting new, with 30 years design experience, Nathan has avoided the pitfalls inherent to the designs of the original purses manufacture, yet he has attempted to keep a design with the quality and excellence exemplified in the Nantucket tradition. Whether you are a first time basket maker or have been weaving for years, these baskets are a joy to create.

Quality starts at the beginning and continues throughout the production process. All parts are of the finest quality, made from indigenous materials. With the exception of the 7 inch oval Cape Cod Purse©, all kits are available in either premium pounded black ash which Nate prepares to exacting specifications or TigerAsh™. TigerAsh™ is the latest in quality, affordable American grown ash. A basket woven from TigerAsh™ has lots of character. Nate's design work has allowed him to create a basket which is everlasting. However if something should happen to your basket the design elements make it easy to repair unlike the original Nantuckets.

Nathan's goal is to give you a kit which will allow you to be successful each and every time. The Cape Cod Purse© baskets are quick to weave, quick to rim and quick to lid. When possible all rims, lids and handles have been pre-drilled to ensure ease of placement. By mixing and matching parts you can create a basket which is uniquely your own.
