May 21 & 22, 2005 Shaker Apple Basket
The same Shakers who made the Fancy Baskets for sale made the original Mount Lebanon apple baskets. Thus they used the finest of all their strong ash, pounded by their Supreme Leader, Elder Daniel Boler. The rims and handles were made in the cabinet shop. This made the Mt Lebanon Apple Basket one of the largest basket produced exemplifying the refinements of the Fancy Basket industry. Nate insures the closest reproduction by weaving on mold copies made from the original on loan from the New York State Museum at Albany, NY. The handles and rims are made with the same tools, faithfully reproducing them to exactness. The apple basket’s splint is pounded and processed in precisely the same manner as it was 160 years ago. Only the strongest and healthiest splints are selected for these baskets.

July 23 & 24, 2005 Nathan Taylor’s Cape Cod Purse©
The Cape Cod Purse© is Nate’s new design utilizing traditional and art basketry materials in an extremely frugal and practical manner. The result is a country elegant purse. Intended to be quickly woven the large ash base lets the basket sit sturdy. The pounded ash staves turn quickly up the sides requiring little tapering. Nate’s unique cube rims accented with brass nails are solid and strong. The lid is contoured and channeled for the stitched leather hinges and magnetic latch. The lid is flat leaving you plenty of space to adorn it with your choice of a scrimshaw piece or carving. A stitched or braided leather shoulder strap is attached with bone knobs and washers. An optional wooden handle is available. The Cape Cod Purse© signature plaque is included.

August 20 & 21, 2005 Nathan Taylor’s Quadrifoil Medallion
Framed basket art pieces! Nathan’s Quad Art came to life at the urgings of a patron. She thought that the basket bases he wove were more beautiful in and of themselves and that putting them into a basket only took away from their beauty. To convince Nathan of this she hung one of his larger quadrifoil basket bases over the fireplace in the lobby of the Balsam's Grand Resort Hotel where Nathan was demonstrating. There were many appreciative comments and so much interest that Nathan was compelled to create this new presentation of the quadrifoil weave. Nathan went with that concept and in 1990 he introduced a new form of framed art. Today hundreds of these piece of “Quad Art” adorn homes across America. For the first time Nathan offers classes in this medium at Fletcher Farm School for the Arts and Crafts. Be among the first to make one of these beautiful art pieces.
