June 21—25 (5 days) - An Introduction to Nantucket Basket Making

It features the Wall Pouch which is a great little basket that can be hung on the wall or stood on a shelf.  The Wall Pouch is the first step on your way to making Nate’s Pouch Purse.  A mini creel purse, Nate’s Pouch Purse is a delight to carry.  Woven in the Nantucket tradition in cane on cane.  The cherry top is secured with a magnetic leather latch and matching leather shoulder strap.

June 26 & 27 (2 days) - Nate’s Cape Cod Purse©.

Artfully designed, Nathan Taylor created this purse incorporating the materials indigenous to Cape Cod and which would have been used by Cape Cod basket makers.  The basket is made with oak rims and lid with a white ash base and pounded brown ash body.  A choice of cherry or black leather hinges, clasp and strap are offered.  Brass nails and hand turned bone knobs rounds out the standard purse.

July 26—30 (5 days) - Shaker Icon Baskets

You will have an opportunity to make several of the Shaker’s well-known icon fancy baskets.  In this class you will work at your own pace making as many of these Shaker classics as you find comfortable.  You can expect to make as a minimum the Kittenhead, Cathead, and Spoon baskets.  Some students will go on to choose and make other fancy baskets.

August 30—September 3 (5 days) - Mt. Lebanon Carrier and Mt. Lebanon Fruit Baskets

The original molds for these baskets were loaned to Nathan by the Shaker museum at Old Chatam, NY.  Continue the tradition and be one of the proud students to have made a museum quality reproduction.

September 7—9 (3 days) - Shaker Apple Basket

Nathan insures the closest reproduction by weaving on molds copied from the original on loan to him from the New York State Museum at Albany, NY.  Just imagine what a  pleasure it will be to gather this years crop of apples in your very own apple basket.
