June 21—25
(5 days) - An Introduction to Nantucket Basket
Making
It features the Wall
Pouch which is a great little basket that can be hung on the wall or
stood on a shelf. The Wall Pouch is the first step on your way to
making Nate’s Pouch Purse. A mini creel purse, Nate’s Pouch Purse is
a delight to carry. Woven in the Nantucket tradition in cane on
cane. The cherry top is secured with a magnetic leather latch and
matching leather shoulder strap.
June 26 & 27
(2 days) -
Nate’s Cape Cod Purse©.
Artfully designed,
Nathan Taylor created this purse incorporating the materials
indigenous to Cape Cod and which would have been used by Cape Cod
basket makers. The basket is made with oak rims and lid with a white
ash base and pounded brown ash body. A choice of cherry or black
leather hinges, clasp and strap are offered. Brass nails and hand
turned bone knobs rounds out the standard purse.
July 26—30
(5 days) - Shaker Icon Baskets
You will have an
opportunity to make several of the Shaker’s well-known icon fancy
baskets. In this class you will work at your own pace making as many
of these Shaker classics as you find comfortable. You can expect to
make as a minimum the Kittenhead, Cathead, and Spoon baskets. Some
students will go on to choose and make other fancy baskets.
August 30—September
3 (5 days) -
Mt. Lebanon Carrier and Mt. Lebanon Fruit
Baskets
The original molds
for these baskets were loaned to Nathan by the Shaker museum at Old
Chatam, NY. Continue the tradition and be one of the proud students
to have made a museum quality reproduction.
September 7—9
(3 days) -
Shaker Apple Basket
Nathan insures the
closest reproduction by weaving on molds copied from the original on
loan to him from the New York State Museum at Albany, NY. Just
imagine what a pleasure it will be to gather this years crop of
apples in your very own apple basket.
