Nate's Nantuckets Basket Making Classes Schedule
Weaving baskets is a relaxing and gratifying hobby. It lets you release your creative juices and create beautiful, useful works of art. If you would like to learn basketry, Nathan teaches at several basketry conventions throughout the year. He also holds regular classes at his home studio or you can attend classes at Fletcher Farm in Vermont or the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in New Hampshire.
Nathan has been researching, designing and teaching basketry
for over 30 years. He is more than happy to pass along his
skill and knowledge to eager students. The schedule below
lists all the venues where Nathan will be teaching.
Georgia Basketry Association:

The Sandwich Purse
Weave with hand pounded black ash, complete with ash handle, rim and a solid cherry lid. Students will learn mold weaving and hinging techniques.

Nantucket style set up, weaving and rimming techniques will be taught. The purse is finished with leather hinges, latch and shoulder strap. The bone knobs are included.
The Falmouth with Burl Inlay
The Falmouth is a great jewelry, dressertop or tabletop basket. The low design makes this basket useful for a number of things. Students will weave hand pounded black ash over a mold. Nate's new slip-on rapid-rim™ allows students to complete it quickly. The cherry lid with Carpathian elm burl inlay is the perfect finishing touch.

Shaker Spoon
The cupped sides of this basket resemble the bowl of a spoon. These baskets were often sold as a child's basket or a trinket basket. Examples of Spoon baskets were sold in Shaker shops as early as 1820. This
basket is a good introduction to Shaker basket making and will
make any beginner basket maker proud.
Burl Jewelry
The Burl Jewelry basket is a great dresser or tabletop basket. The low design makes the basket useful for a number of things. This truly unique basket makes a great gift for the man in your life. Nate's
new cherry slip-on rapid-rim™ allows students to complete it quickly. The
lid is cherry inlaid with Carpathian elm burl. Mold weaving and
new rimming techniques will be taught.
NCBA "My Baskets and Me" 2008 Convention, Durham, NC
March 12th- 16th , 2008
Love Notes
Made with TygerAsh™ and a one piece cherry rim. The cherry lid has the
words "Love Notes"
engraved on the top. Students will learn to weave over a class mold. The
body weaves up quickly and easily to make the perfect last-day-of-convention
class. Lift off the lid and store your Love Notes inside.
Low Shaker Fruit
This is a replica of a Shaker Fruit Basket. The hand pounded black ash is prepared the same way as the Shakers. Each student will receive a copy of the book, Shaker Baskets by Nathan Taylor and Martha Wetherbee. Filled with fruit, this basket looks gorgeous on the dinning room table.
Nantucket Pouch Purse
Notice that the Nantucket Pouch Purse is larger at its base than at the top. Because of this it can only be made on a breakdown mold. Taper must be made at the base as well as at the top. Nantucket style set up, weaving and rimming techniques will be taught. The purse is finished with leather hinges, latch and shoulder strap. The bone knobs are included.
Missouri "MBG 2007 Gateway Gathering", St. Louis, MO
August 2-5th, 2008
Nate's Nantucket Carrier
Nate’s new Nantucket Carrier is a beautiful piece of fine woodworking. The
cherry base, one piece cherry rim and double swing cherry handles are rich in luster. The TigerAsh™ staves almost makes this a completely wooden basket. The cane weavers when urethane is applied shine like the wood. The basket is easily carried on the arm. The student will learn Nantucket style setup and new rimming and handle attachment methods.
The 7" Nantucket Party Purse
Borrowing many features from Nathan’s original Cape Cod Purse© this
purse recalls the baskets of the Nantucket Lightships. Woven of cane on
cane it weaves easily up the same mold as the original Cape Cod Purse©.
The finished basket will gain the signature golden glow of all quality
Nantuckets as it ages beautifully.
3" Nantucket Small with Hummingbird Scrimshaw
Begin your Nantucket basket making experience with this wonderful 3inch “smalls”.
This is the ultimate first lesson in Nantucket basketry. You will watch
Nathan set up this basket as he explains what he is doing, why he is doing
it and how his system works. You will then weave your own basket from a jump-started
kit. You have learned the entire process of setting up a Nantucket and now
you can concentrate and enjoy the weaving of yours.
