Nate's New Ash Parts!

American White ash and oak were the two original materials for the Nantucket baskets made on the lightships. In keeping with this, Nate's new line is made entirely of American white ash, the bendable wood that hardens like a rock. It's the most stable of all basket making materials. Once it dries it tends to stay put so your bases don't warp and your handles don't move. Using your creativity you'll be able to use these parts to design and make your own basket styles. These handles and rims can be reheated in water and bent into "different shapes".

When white ash is sanded, it sands smooth and stays smooth. The grain doesn't lift as readily as other woods. Because the wood is so hard the screws need to be piloted with the right size drill, as do the rim nails.

Nathan is consulting designer to one of the fastest growing lines of baskets sold in America. They are Nantuckets carrying Nate's delicate design sense and almost entirely made of this golden white ash. The popularity and acceptance of this material and these styles leads Nate to think that today's basket maker will love using these materials.

New White Ash Handles

The New White Ash Handles are now completely contour sanded width a beautifully formed handgrip. The handles narrow gradually as they drop to the rim where the end provides a platform for domes or knobs. They come sanded to a smooth finish. These handles have much more work in them than our old oak handles, but they are generally priced at or below our oak prices of three years ago.

New White Ash Bases

The New White Ash Bases are much more shapely than our old style. They have softer domes and a crisper edging and undercut. They come smooth sanded and best of all they have the deepest grooves in the industry. The white end grain is just beautiful and once a finish is applied they turn gold and reflect light. Priced right, these bases cannot be beat!

New White Ash Rims

The New White Ash Rims are a full half round. They are thicker and smoother than any we have done before. We now have larger sizes at very affordable prices, up to a third less than our old oak rim prices of three years ago.

New White Ash Lids

The white ash grain in our New White Ash Lids is exceptionally beautiful in its gold tones. They are smooth sanded to beautiful domes. Lid pulls come included. Once again their prices are exceptional, for example a six-inch lid is $7.00 less than our oak price of three years ago.
