Our Shaker Basket Kits
All of our kits are made in the Shaker
Tradition. They are of the highest quality , prepared just as
the Shakers would have done. They are actual reproductions
designed from the original molds on loan from museums to the Basket
Shop.
Our kits include a plan and all of the
materials for making one basket. The molds are purchased
separately.
Our plans are generally 5 typed
pages and include a picture of the finished product, dimensions,
materials list, the name of the mold used, information about the
basket, a very detailed set of weaving instructions as well as
instructional pictures, and a collection of actual
pictures of important points to notice on the basket.

Puzzle Cathead

This fancy basket is named for its
shape. Turned bottom-side up it resembles a cat's head.
Most Shaker baskets are woven on molds from a solid block of wood.
This cathead basket is made on a mold that breaks down into three
separate pieces, with a dove tail spline joint at its center
connecting the two sides. Notice that the cathead's diameter is
considerably smaller at the top than at it's middle, a style that can
only be made by using the breakdown molds.

The most difficult twill was the
Shaker quadrifoil. This is the kit of all kits! Our very
best ash is put into this basket. The handles and rims are
shaped and steam bent. Directions for this kit were written
directly from classes. These plans teach theory as well as lead
you through this rewarding project. You will love the experience
and it's a chance to show how capable a basket maker you are.

Heavy-duty baskets were handy
"carry-alls" in the Shaker community. This type was made and
used at Mt. Lebanon. This carrier has "feet" woven
in the corners of the basket to keep the contents off the ground and
prevent the bottom from wearing out. The basket has a hardwood
handle going across the short way of the basket making it ideal for
carrying just about anything.
